About Us
Who We Are
Project BirdHouse Inc., DBA "BirdHouse" is a charitable 501c3 nonprofit providing financial assistance and local resources to those within our communities that have fallen on hard times, lacking the means to secure the bare necessities. At this time, BirdHouse's operations and outreach efforts are centered on both the geographic and metaphoric "heart" of Atlanta, GA. Having been established late 2019, we are excited to be launching our gift card and resource hub programs this year, 2022.
What We Do
We supply gift cards to the public for direct distribution to our Neighbors (those who may be experiencing homelessness or seeking immediate assistance), granting each person access to a growing network of retailers ready to meet their immediate purchasing needs. The BirdHouse mobile & web apps also serve as a localized Resource Hub equipping users with access to our directory of partner organizations that are uniquely positioned to provide additional care and services to our Neighbors. To learn more about how BirdHouse works or how to get involved, visit our “How it Works” page!
Our "Why"
- We're All Human: BirdHouse empowers Neighbors through autonomous purchases of immediate needs & wants in addition to a normalized presence in the marketplace for goods and services. Attentiveness towards new/clean clothes, dietary preferences & allergies, hygiene/feminine care products, entertainment, a clean shave, a smile of acknowledgment, or even the timing of these needs do not simply go away because one's monetary means have.
- The Elephant in the Heart: We want to address the common concern of whether monetary gifts to those in need (our Neighbors) are being put to their intended use by restricting the purchases of nicotine and alcohol products. BirdHouse is less focused on the restrictions and more intent on meeting givers where they are- encouraging those who may hesitate to give, to give freely.
While our primary operations serve “the now” and are shorter-term solutions to a larger issue, we lean into our strengths of generosity and resource networking while strategically partnering with local organizations that are aligned with with our vision. This results in a more wholistic approach toward addressing homelessness and need. We serve as a Resource Hub - planting the seeds of hope needed now, engaging in rich dialogue - identifying how we can best serve, then leading our Neighbors to the help they need to reshape their “later”. Some organization types we would love to collaborate with are:
ID Assistance
Shelters and Housing
Job Placement
Healthcare Assistance and clinics
Dental and Vision clinics
Counseling services
Rehabilitation facilities
Churches
Personal Care Services (Barbers, Beauticians, Nail spas)
If you are interested in becoming a Partner, we would love to hear from you! Be sure to visit our Partner with Us page.
- "Cashless Society": The increasing scarcity of cash on hand is another wedge driven between our Neighbors and their ability to obtain the things they need. When potential givers are solicited for assistance, many find themselves desiring to extend a gift, but have not carried a dollar bill in months. BirdHouse gift cards can be kept in cars and wallets, ready to be distributed in these critical moments!
- The Impact: While our organization engages in outreach activities of its own, BirdHouse is designed around accessibility and reach. BirdHouse's impact expands significantly as we equip the public (our givers) with gift cards and resources they can share and distribute as opportunities present themselves.
